Community Engagement Report

Georgetown University has released its 2015 community engagement report, Georgetown University in the District of Columbia, showcasing the university’s contributions to the common good in the District.

Highlights from this year’s report include:

• Georgetown University remains the largest private employer in the District, with 6,008 employees, 1,999 of whom live in DC
• Approximately 1,200 students worked in the community each semester through the Center for Social Justice while 400 undergraduates took one of 16 community-based learning courses that included engaging with a community organization
• Participation in the DC Center for AIDS Research, an interdisciplinary consortium committed to supporting research that contributes to ending the AIDS epidemic in the District and beyond
• Community-based research, outreach, and education on a range of critical social issues, such as reducing health disparities, early childhood development, driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants, pilanthropy, juvenile justice, climate change, and more
• Recognition of George Jones of Bread for the City with the John Thompson, Jr. Legacy of a Dream Award which includes a yearlong partnership to support his work
• Renewal of Georgetown University’s Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching
• Productive and collaborative relationship with our immediate community through the Georgetown Community Partnership
