Neighborhood Resources

The Office of Neighborhood Life supports all students, non-students, and permanent residents in the communities surrounding Georgetown University. The office educates students about university policies and local ordinances; continues to build and strengthen neighborhood relations by facilitating dialogue; and promotes civic citizenship to create a positive quality of life for everyone living in the neighborhood.

Lauinger Library, Georgetown University’s primary library, is open to neighbors who wish to explore our collections and archival exhibits. Anyone with a government-issued ID may to enter the library and utilize its resources during the day. Those interested in borrowing materials can become a Library Associate.

Each fall, join neighbors, students, faculty, and staff for a day of fun and family-friendly activities at Georgetown Community Day! Festivities include face painting, moon bounces, music, games, and a community picnic with free food. The community fair features tables staffed by representatives of local schools, churches, community organizations, government agencies, and university departments sharing information about how you can get involved.

Campus Ministry supports Roman Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, Orthodox Christian, Hindu and Buddhist worship services. Many of these services are open to the public. The University also hosts and provides pastoral resources for weddings, infant baptisms, and those interested in joining the Catholic Church. The John Main Center also provides opportunities for those seeking private or group meditation.

The Georgetown University Learning Community offers convenient three-week, non-credit courses for neighbors over 55 years of age. Courses are taught by retired university faculty and most meet on the Hilltop campus. Registration fees are $30 per course. Neighbors 65 years and better may also audit Main Campus undergraduate courses through the Senior Citizen Non-degree Auditor Program. Neighbors must obtain consent from the professor before auditing the course and pay a nominal $34 per credit.

Neighbors can become members of the Yates Field House on campus as either annual or monthly “Friends of Georgetown” subscribers. With a membership, neighbors can use exercise equipment, basketball courts, squash and tennis courts, an indoor track, an indoor lap and diving pool, and much more. Yates Field House also offers swimming and tennis lessons for children and teens.

Georgetown’s campus features multiple art galleries that showcase the work of students and working artists, and house University collections. All are open to the public. Galleries include the Lucille M. and Richard F.X. Spagnuolo Art Gallery, the Art & Art History Office Gallery, Georgetown College Dean’s Art Gallery, the Napolitano Exhibition Space, and the de la Cruz Gallery of Art.

Calling all young Hoyas fans!! The Georgetown Hoyas Kids Club is open to children in 8th grade and below. Club members receive free tickets to three select men’s basketball games, access to additional discounted men’s basketball tickets for select home games, free admission to all regular season games on campus (except men’s basketball), an opportunity to be a ball kid during games, and an invitation to the “Kids Take Over McDonough” event.

The Georgetown University Department of Performing Arts is home to dozens of performing groups in music, theater, and dance. Throughout the year, the department offers members of the public a variety of opportunities to enjoy performances conveniently located on campus.
